From the bride, Caitlin: Andrew and I needed a wedding ceremony that celebrated our two families’ unique histories as 4th generation San Juan Islanders (the bride’s family members) and long-time Texans and Austinites (the groom’s household), whilst reflecting our deep really like of the Pacific Northwest’s normal elegance. It took just one visit for us to fall in really like with Turtlehead Farm on Orcas Island. The farm’s unique homestead was constructed by Swedish settlers in 1860 and is residence to the San Juan’s Island only energetic single blade sawmill. Although other couples prevented utilizing the mill for wedding day festivities, Andrew and I noticed incredible potential in the website and jumped at the opportunity to offer you our guests a one particular-of-a-type ceremony knowledge.

Officiated by my oldest cousin, our ceremony was following by cocktails in a modest clearing between the farm’s sod-roofed blacksmith shop and flower backyard. Under hand-lower papel picado banners, guests loved croquet and cocktails and soaked in the farm’s spectacular pastoral views. I wore a dress by Winifred Bean obtained from Seattle’s Dress Concept and Andrew wore a Brooks Brother’s suit and cowboy boots gifted by his father specifically for the wedding.

Our reception was located in the farm’s authentic wooden barn and was chalked total of individual information that meant the globe to us. In the months top up to our wedding ceremony, I collected vintage postcards from spots about the globe that hold significance for our families (this included Austin, Seattle, Philadelphia, Ninilchik, New London, Walla Walla, and Halong Bay among other places). The postcards served as table-markers, and I wore an antique silk shawl from my family’s years spent in Malaysia in the course of the 1800’s to commemorate my excellent-grandmother. As gifts, visitors were offered customized handmade cedar sachets from the sawmill, and one particular of our dearest friend’s bands played music late into the night.
