Haters won’t get him down! Kanye West has received plenty of media attention for his last-minute Yeezy Season 2 show at New York Fashion Week, but the rapper-turned-designer is choosing to rise above the criticism.
“People hate on Kanye all the time,” a source tells Us Weekly exclusively of West’s reaction to those who have dismissed his Sept. 16 show. “He doesn’t care in the least. He ignores the haters. He doesn’t pay attention to all the bitter critics.”

On Thursday, Sept. 17, renowned fashion critic Cathy Horyn cut West, 38, down to size in a scathing review for the New York Times, calling West’s collection “kind of amusing” at best.

“The presentation was in a white-walled basement in Chelsea, with the audience sitting on either side of a wide floor,” she wrote. “As a drill sergeant barked out commands — ‘First row!’ — a line of models appeared, followed by a second and a third, all of them in tights or leggings or stretch shorts and tops that looked a lot like Spanx. Those models exited and another batch came out, now dressed in woebegone fatigue jackets and pants, and, I might add, looking rather downcast. They made me think of POWs. The military conceit was apt, given the mind-lock that Kanye has managed to put on the fashion world.”

Horyn’s blunt assessment of West’s line is missing the point, the source tells Us.
“The show was beautiful and cool,” the insider says. “And Kanye has never failed in this space. His Adidas shoes sell online for so much money. From a success standpoint, he is only reinforced by the fact that all he ever touches, all his collections and collaborations, sell out so quickly.”

Fashion industry heavyweights aside, West’s army-themed pieces rubbed some other people the wrong way as well.

“Kanye’s fashion show stuff looks like future slave gear to me… Just sayin,” Ice T tweeted alongside a composite photo of models in Kanye’s gear.

“I’m not POP … so I speak freely,” he added in another tweet, clarifying to a follower that he feels “pop” is anything that’s “manufactured [and] lacks heart and soul.”
This is West’s second runway show following his debut at NYFW this past February, with Yeezy Season 1.
