You’;ve probably noticed the purplish lipstick micro-trend floating around for the last little while. Amanda Seyfried was an early adopter back in 2012, and then we saw it on Camilla Belle as well as Kate Hudson (who did a more marsala interpretation).
But maybe the best, most actually wearable version yet is Lupita Nyong’;o’;s, from earlier this week in Cannes:

Shut. It. Down. On her naturally plump lips and against her gleaming skin and the green dress, this is the perfect colour pop. I think the wearability comes in here from the fact that they’;re halfway a cold pink, so not full-blown, hard-to-wear purple.
BTW, you must see her twirling about in her Gucci:

I want to do that!
But back to the makeup. Here’;s her close-up:

I lurrrve these lips—the shape, colour, the everything. And the brows are on point, too. (Just ignore that we can only see the lashes on the one eye.)
Lupita’;s makeup artist, Nick Barose, described the look as “big, glamorous movie stars brows… and because grasshopper green goes with purply pink lotus lips.”
Lotus lips! #accurate
He first painted them with Lancôme Color Design Sensational Effects Matte Lipcolor in Hit List. This is a rich, matte blue-pink.

To take it more glossy and purply, he added Lancôme Shine Lover Vibrant Shine Lipstick in 373 Palpitante.

Finally, he used Lancôme Le Crayon Lip Contour in Plum to trace around the edges for definition. (I think this works because of her skin tone—would be way too obvious on someone fair, though!)

You should also know that she’;s wearing that new cushion compact I just reviewed, the Lancôme Miracle Cushion in 500 Suede (the second darkest shade).

As usual, Lupita is the queen of statement makeup, and this lip just makes me happy!
While the purple-pink colour might look a bit strong (or Barbie-like) on fair complexions, it’;s just perfect on dark to medium skin with neutral to slightly cool undertones.
