Tongue in Cheek Whimsical Australian Wedding

on

You might want to put aside some time for today’s wedding — it’s a bit of a doozie in the best way ever. Lara Hotz and Merci Bouquet worked with Lex and Dave to make their vision of a colorful massive party come to life, and every bit of the whimsical result is nothing short of perfection.

From the bride, Lex: The ceremony was emotional and happy. The reception was fun and a massive party, which is exactly what we always wanted. From the beginning we were calling it the after party. It was all really colourful, playful and a bit tongue and cheek — reference the tag lines attached to our flower vases at the reception).

The hens party was a crafternoon. Thanks to the help of some lovely ladies we boshed out; the aisle hearts, bonbonnierie, bunting, garlands, vases (and cheeky pick up tags). In our spare time we made confetti bags, table decor, “guest book” polaroid washing line, chair tags, winners ribbons for the MOB, GOB, FOB, MOB. My yia yia made spinach pies and my dad made rice pudding for the reception. Dave’s brother Isaac, the best man, took on the huge task of brewing 70 craft beers, which we branded ‘The Best Man Brew’. Dave selected and ordered all of the wine. DIY and BYO — how’s that for hands on!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be yourselves, we had so many people telling us that it was the best wedding they had been too because everything was so perfect for us. If you try to please everyone you will end up pleasing no one. We had lamingtons as our wedding cake, peanut m&m’s as our sweet almonds and hired our favourite chef to make his famous Rueben sandwiches. We chose these things all because we love them… and they were delicious and the day was perfect because of it. One more thing for the bride, I wish I looked up at Dave when coming up the aisle. It sounds obvious but on the day when you’re so excited and there are all these people you haven’t seen for a while you look at them. No one reminds you to look up and straight ahead at your partner.
