Architectural San Antonio Mission Wedding Inspiration

on

We’re heading off for the weekend, but not before leaving you with some seriously pretty images from Charla Storey. A creative team including Lauren Field Design and Clementine Botanical Art made their way to Mission San Jose, using the inherent beauty of the architecture as a jumping off point for the design and vision. You’ll spot an airy blue wedding gown, an ethereal green gold skirt, and a tablescape so lovely it almost hurts. Don’t take our word for it, though — take a peek yourself!

From the designer and stylist, Lauren Field Design: “I am in you and you in me, mutual in divine love” -William Blake | We were moved by the timeworn architecture of the ancient mission and its inherent beauty both inside and out. The combination of the provincial scale, intricate architectural details, and subtle ambiance of a past place of worship created a boldly poetic setting. We wanted to capture a new Southern romance paired with the grandeur of the past with an intimate fête set amongst a strong landscape of world heritage.

Inspired by the varied texture of the grounds and the dramatic combination of a southern rustic and Spanish colonial vibe, we chose a refined palette of textured earth tones with hints of rust, goldenrod, terracotta, and varying shades of blue. Elements of stone, aged wood and plaster, and elaborately carved details provided a stunning backdrop both indoors and out and we were influenced by the mission’s relationship to natural light. The celebration was characterized by sculptural and metallic details layered with deep wood tones.

The table was set with textured yet moody rustic florals atop carved wood pedestals layered with charmeuse, leather, and copper/gold metallic tones. We chose bronze and gold flatware, navy goblets, and matte ceramic plates adorned with pyrite topped leather placecards. The table and chairs were simple timeworn mission style dark wood atop an antique rug. The cake was a simple textured terra cotta with floral and berry accents. The invitations were an ivory texture with navy, goldenrod, and leather details. The bride was dressed in an avante-garde dusty blue gown with delicate tulle detailing. She carried a bouquet of soft yet regal blooms adorned in silk ribbon. She wore an airy ethereal veil paired with a French silk tulle dressing cape atop elegant lace lingerie.
