Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Foundation and Primer Review

Affiliate linksRevlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Foundation is a part of Revlon’s new Youth FX Collection that features 4 products designed to blur lines & wrinkles with micro-fillers and optical diffusers. I don’t have wrinkles yet but the promise of full coverage that erases the appearance of uneven tone, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation lured me into buying this new foundation.

Plus, the Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Foundation formula also claims to be hydrating so I thought it would probably tick all the right boxes for my dry, blotchy skin. And because there was a Buy 1, get 1 at 50% off at Ulta, I also picked up the Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Primer for Face/Neck. It’s hard to resist new drugstore makeup right?

Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Foundation is described as a lightweight, hydrating formula that fills in and blurs lines and wrinkles to make your skin look instantly smoother. It’s available in 12 shades. I picked up #320 (True Beige) which turned out to be an almost perfect match for my light-medium skin tone.

That said, I wish the formula was just as perfect too! First off, it has a lightweight but slightly thick consistency. Although it doesn’t feel heavy or mask-like on my skin, there’s no creaminess in the texture. Honestly, I had expected a bit more creamy feel because of the hydrating claim.

The first time I used this foundation (after applying the Youth FX Fill + Blur Primer), it didn’t blend easily and clung to my dry areas…not an even, smooth finish at all! Even though I was disappointed, I thought maybe it was because my skin had been extra dry lately.

Next time, I made sure to moisturize my skin well, apply the Youth FX Fill + Blur primer and then use a flat top foundation brush to apply and blend this foundation. It didn’t look patchy this time and I got a nice, smooth and natural finish.

So obviously, this foundation needs a good prep for easy application and blending, especially if you have dry skin like me. Neither the primer nor the foundation is hydrating as the product description states. Also, the Youth FX foundation has a natural matte finish…somehow I had assumed it would have a soft dewy finish but that’s not the case!

As for the coverage, it’s great but definitely not full. The formula is well pigmented but if you have noticeable acne scars and dark spots like me, this foundation won’t completely conceal those issues. Overall, I really don’t mind the medium coverage this offers but I did expect the product to be a bit more pigmented (considering that it is designed to erase the appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation)

Also, the Revlon Youth FX foundation does seem to smooth and blur my fine lines, but the blurring effect is not much different than what I get with any of my other medium-full coverage foundations. There’s nothing groundbreaking or life changing here!

Bottom Line

Overall, I am disappointed with the Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Foundation and Primer. Both of these products fall short of their claims. I didn’t find the foundation to be hydrating as promised and it doesn’t quite offer the coverage I need for my problematic skin (acne scars, discoloration, and dullness). Not to mention, it’s $ 17.99 which is a little bit pricey for a drugstore foundation.

The Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Primer was even more disappointing because it doesn’t smooth and prep my skin nicely enough to help the foundation apply more easily. And it’s almost $ 20 for a small amount of 0.33 oz…major fail! I would rather spend $ 19 on the travel size (0.31 oz) bottle of my favorite Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer that’s worth every penny and totally lives up to its hype!

Have you tried anything from the new Revlon Youth FX Collection? Did you like it?
